With the Avaya IP Office Unified Communications Module, Avaya provides a single touch point for sourcing, maintenance and support of application deployment. The UC Module is an integrated CPU running Linux, thus avoiding the need for server licenses (Microsoft) and any requirement to keep an external server updated outside of the telephony software and hardware. Additional benefits include flexibility with application deployment such as Preferred Edition and the ability to expand ports, user licenses for user productivity packages.

The UC Module comes preloaded with all Preferred Edition Voice Mail Pro server software images including a Preferred Edition license, one-X Portal software images and IM/Mobility (same as the Linux Applications DVD for external servers).

The UC Module will include an implicit Preferred Edition license so all server software will be available depending on the User package purchased, e.g., Power User, Teleworker, Officeworker and Mobileworker Preferred. The Preferred Edition system license will come ‘bundled’ with the module. A pre-requisite Essential Edition system license is required for proper UC Module operation.

The UC Module integrates with existing IP500 V2 Control Unit:

Dial Tone

Businesses and individuals rely on it every day. It’s taken for granted that picking up that phone will connect you to one the most dependable technologies every invented. Traditionally Dial Tone is delivered using copper telephone lines. In today’s world purchasing Dial Tone is no longer just done through the Local Phone Company. Technology advances now allow consumers to purchase Dial Tone delivered over an internet connection. The benefits of this are numerous.

Avaya IP Office SIP Line

1. A SIP Line can run as low as $10.00 per month.
2. A SIP Line can be installed almost immediately.
3. As long as you have internet access you can access your Lines. Therefore SIP provides an enormous advantage over Copper Telephone Lines for Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery, not to mention flexibility.
4. You can purchase telephone numbers anywhere in the world, not just ones in your Area Code. This allows businesses to have local numbers and a presence in markets where they conduct business.
5. Allows Small Business to take advantage of Direct Inward Dialing (DID) Numbers. Instead of a group of individual lines that roll-over.
6. Since a SIP Line connects over an Ethernet Port, you can scale from 1 to 100s of SIP Lines without adding any hardware.

The cost matrix associated with telephone service has changed dramatically and if you have not analyzed your phone bill lately maybe now is the time.

Let us show you how to upgrade your telephone system to a new Avaya IP Office system, use SIP trunks and still save money.

Call today to find out how. 303-785-6310

17% of Data Breeches occur form within an organization.

Most companies are not even aware that Data Theft has or is occurring. In recent months we have all heard about how “XYZ” large corporation experienced a security breech, and how user information was compromised. But what you don’t hear about is how frequently smaller company’s intellectual property and client data is compromised. According to A study conducted by the Verizon RISK Team with cooperation from the U.S. Secret Service and the Dutch High Tech Crime Unit.
“Criminals may be making a classic risk vs. reward decision and opting to “play it safe” in light of recent arrests and prosecutions following large-scale intrusions into Financial Services firms. Numerous smaller strikes on hotels, restaurants, and retailers represent a lower-risk alternative, and cyber-criminals may be taking greater advantage of that option.”

As a Business Owner how do you ensure that the Access Portals to your businesses network are secure and monitored?

AVAYA’s Identity Engines provides small to large businesses the ability to reliably secure their existing network infrastructure.

Starting with existing security methods inherent to TCP/IP networking and adding a complete portfolio of management and security tools AVAYA’s Identity Engines address three critical components to Network Access: Authenticated Identity and Access Control, Unified Wired and Wireless Access; BYOD (bring your own device) and Guest Access.

Avaya Identity Engines not only authenticate network elements, but also authenticates users and ensures that their devices meet minimum requirements (ie. Anti-Virus, windows updates etc.). Policy based management control ensures that user/devices; based on known criteria. only have assess to network resource allowed by management.

By defining Policy Information Points (ie. LDAP, Active Directory, eDirectory, Java Directory, RSA SecurID and others) and then defining Policy Decision Points in Avaya Identity Engines, Policy Enforcement on the Network is achieved.

Identity Engines is comprised of the following:

Guest Access Control
Posture Control
Reporting and Analytics
Access Portal
CASE (Client for Accessing the Secure Enterprise)

Here is some valuable information for business owners. Avaya’s line of ERS (Ethernet Routing Switches), offers businesses a Fit for Purpose, higher performing Data Network Infrastructure with a lower TCO, than competing products.

Avaya offers several lines of Ethernet Routing Switches:
ERS 2500 Series, ERS 3500 Series, ERS 4000 Series, ERS 5000 Series and ERS 8000 Series

Miercom Testing Results 2011 Avaya ERS Avaya Stackable Chassis QTS-2012

Avaya Networking Brochure QTS-2012 Avaya ERS Lifetime Warranty QTS-2012

I’ve see it, I’ve done it. You open an office and now have computers, printers, wireless access points, postage machines, credit card readers and a host of other devices that need to be networked together. What do you do? Well the “IT Guy” calls me from the computer store down the road and tells me, “Hey I can get a 24-Port Ethernet Switch for $150.00″ ”Buy It!” I reply.

That decision, although a financially easy one to make, begs to be analyzed further.

The old adage “You get what you pay for.” is exemplified perfectly with Data Networking Products. The price for an Ethernet Switch can vary from 100′s of dollars to thousands. Why?

If you cannot measure it; how do you manage it?
Data Networks are one of the poorest managed technologies in a business. Understanding the utilization of a Company’s Network is as critical as managing employees, yet most do not. FYI! Networks by default are not secure. Networks by default have limited ability to contain or respond to failures. Networks by default do not monitor and report activity. Don’t be fooled, just because Anti-Virus software is running on every computer does not make a Company’s Network secure.

Back to my earlier question. Here’s a few reason why:
Business Quality Ethernet Switches, like Avaya’s, provide complete Unified Management, Access Control, Quality of Service, WLAN Support, Visual Performance and Fault Management capabilities. Not only can the Operating Software be upgraded, but silicon chipsets can be flash upgraded. Also, many include replaceable fans and power supplies. Business Quality Ethernet Products provide much greater performance especially when scaling as a business grows. All of these points add up to a much longer product lifespan.

Make the correct initial investment in an Ethernet Switch and you will ultimately save time, frustration and money.

Unified Management: Allows administrators to configuring an Ethernet Switch for specific deployment situations. This ensures better performance, reliability and efficiency.

Access Control: Control and understand who is accessing the Company’s Network; whether remotely, wirelessly or hard wired. Don’t leave the door open to your Company’s Network.

Quality of Service: In today’s world with the adoption of more and more real-time applications traversing a Company’s Network, ensuring the quality of these applications is a mandatory and ever increasing function. Fit for Purpose products like Avaya’s ERS Stackable Switches make VVoIP (Voice and Video over Internet Protocol) deployment simple and reduce the complexities of management and monitoring.

WLAN Support: Wireless Local Area Networks is as common as telephones these days. As with hardwire Ethernet Switches the cost varies widely, but again you get what you pay for. More expensive Ethernet Switches incorporate the Wireless Access Control and Management into a common interface. The demand on business APs (Access Points) increases regularly, so investing in a better product today, in the long run, will save time and money.

Visual Performance and Fault Management: Understanding traffic, security and

Avaya Visual Fault & Performance Monitor

performance is critical to management of a Company’s Network. Having the tools available to easily see the utilization of a network and capably troubleshoot is overlooked by many businesses. With Avaya’s Visual Performance and Fault Management software taking control of a Company’s Network is simple and affordable.

In today’s competitive landscape, businesses need to perform faster, more efficiently and still make ends meet. Technology accelerates the ability to conduct business. What use to take months to engineer and design is now accomplished in days. As a business owner myself if I don’t stay on top of emerging technologies, I know my competition is. Don’t get me wrong, I know for a fact that not all emerging technologies will lead to better performance and efficiency. If you only knew the number of times I’ve fell down “technology’s promises” rabbit hole, but its still my job to filter these technologies.

I wanted to start this blog with that story, because I feel it is relevant to my topic, “Telecommuting / Teleworker Technologies”. Businesses today must contain cost without losing production. One of the largest expenses a business has is office space. On average to have a space for an employee is as high as $450 per month (lease, furniture, power, insurance and shared common space.) By leveraging Avaya’s telecommuting / teleworker applications, businesses make more money! Avaya’s One-X portfolio of products extend the boundaries of your business without losing productivity. Avaya’s One-X Applications are proven applications that every business should seriously consider in today’s economic times. Since these tools are proven and in use widely, business owners do not need to worry that these “emerging technologies” will not function as advertised.

When a business looks to invest in a new office many factors must be considered. I would like to discuss the relevance of a completely wireless office environment and the massive benefits.

1. Voice and Data Cabling. Most businesses use hardwired cabling to connect their computers and phones to the Local Area Network(LAN). In most case this cost is around $200 per location for a dual CAT5 Drop.

2. Ethernet Switches and POE. Connecting a computer to the LAN requires an Ethernet switch. Ethernet switches vary widely in cost and functionality. It is important to understand that management of your Ethernet switches is very important and incorporating non-managed switches into a business environment is not recommended. Additionally if you have VOIP telephones your Ethernet switch will need the ability to deliver power and ensure proper QOS (Quality of Service) to IP Phones. On average a 24-Port Managed POE Ethernet switch will cost over $2,000.

3. Rack space, power, cooling and patch cords. Connecting computers and telephones and other ip endpoints require patch cords both at the desk side and on a data rack. Patch cords can cost around $10 a piece. Ethernet switches require power, rack space and cooling and usually are located in a dedicated computer room. These costs and logistics must be considered.

4. Flexibility and mobility. Hardwired IP endpoints must be located and stay fixed near the Jack it is plugged into. Moving an employee from one location to another requires many touch points and IT Personnel.

Factoring all of these costs and logistics let’s consider the Wireless Office. Deploying a single Wireless Access points in an office environment can provide LAN connectivity for a multitude of IP endpoints. With today’s technology speeds of up to 150Meg are available, which for most LAN users is entirely adequate. QTS can deploy a Wireless Office in hours as opposed to weeks. We also have WiFi IP Telephones that function as a internal office extension and mobile cellular device when you leave the office; eliminating the cost of having different devices in the office and on the road. The power and cooling requirements of a Wireless Office is dramatically reduced. In most case having a dedicated computer/phone room for your IT Infrastructure in also eliminated. The complexity on moving employees in the office is not an issue. Tomorrows Wireless Office is here today and businesses that are not considering this type of deployment are spending way more money then the should for LAN connectivity.
